Scholarship Eligibility Requirements


What is the Mid Florida U&TCA Scholarship?

The Mid Florida U&TCA Scholarship is a minimum one time $1,000 award with a maximum of a $1,000 per year for four years.

Who may apply?
Any individual who is a child, grandchild, niece/nephew, etc. of a Mid Florida U&TCA member and who will be enrolling or is currently enrolled in an accredited college or university for the year beginning in August or September 2008.

Applicant must be affiliated with a member in good standing with dues paid at the time of application. Applicant must be affiliated with the company that is the actual Mid Florida U&TCA member. Out of area branch offices of member companies are not eligible.

How and when do I apply?
Complete the application in accordance with the instructions and send it to the Mid Florida U&TCA office at the address provided. All applications must be received in the Mid Florida U&TCA office no later than Friday, May 16, 2008.

What must accompany the application?
The application must be returned along with:

1) transcript of high school grades (for high school students only)
2) transcript of accredited college or university grades through the latest period prior to May 16, (for college students only) 
3) completed application and
4) essay

How will the application be judged?
The scholarship recipient will be selected by the Scholarship Committee based on the general worthiness of the application. The Mid Florida U&TCA Scholarship Committee will consider the following:

1) essay,
2) scholastic standing,
3) extra curricular activities,
4) employment experience,
5) SAT scores (for high school student only),
6) career goals, and
7) thoroughness of the completed application.

How will the confidentiality of the application be protected?
When the application has been received into the Mid Florida U&TCA office, each application is given a number and an acknowledgment is sent to the applicant. The application is handled only by the association staff. Once this has been done, the first page of the application will be placed in a sealed envelope and marked only with the application number. The association staff then reviews the application in detail, and removes any and all words or references that provide information relating to the applicant’s name, sex, race, religion, address or Mid Florida U&TCA member company. The Scholarship Committee will meet at predetermined times and review only sanitized copies of the application. Should any committee member recognize the applicant through the remaining information, that member will disqualify themselves from the consideration of that application, and the remaining committee members will make the determination regarding that application. Only winning envelopes are opened, and the others are destroyed.
